Breadsall · DE21
Fresh walls. Fine lines. Finished.
Residential decorating for Breadsall, Breadsall Hilltop and the villages either side. Rooms, ceilings, gloss and the whole house, done the way you'd want them done.
We aim to reply within the day.
Breadsall is the sort of place you could drive through in a minute and spend a lifetime getting to know. A church spire you can see for miles. A priory that once housed Erasmus Darwin. Cottages, family homes, and the newer roads up on the Hilltop.
And until now, no Breadsall painter and decorator with a page of its own. Search for one and you'll get directories, a firm from Littleover, and Houzz. Charming, but not local.
So here's a local answer. We decorate homes in Breadsall (DE21) and nearby Little Eaton, Oakwood, Chaddesden, Breadsall Hilltop, Morley and Spondon. Walls, ceilings, woodwork, outside. One room or every room.

Dust sheets down, tools packed, rooms you can use by evening.
Fill, sand, seal, prime. Then the colour goes on: two coats, by hand at the edges.
We aim to respond within the day, and we say a date and keep it. If weather shifts it, you hear first.

Interior house painting is where most of our Breadsall work begins: a sitting room that's seen too many winters, a bedroom that still belongs to a teenager who left home years ago, a kitchen that's quietly gone yellow.
Paint that suits the place. Washable matt in halls and stairs. Steam-proof paint in bathrooms. Soft, breathable finishes in older cottage rooms, where the walls need to breathe.
Colour, considered. Not sure? We'll bring cards and paint test patches. Light changes everything in a village house with small windows, so we test before we commit.

People search for ceiling glossing in Breadsall when what they usually mean is two jobs that belong together: ceilings and glosswork (doors, frames, skirtings, spindles). Done at the same time, they make a room look new.
Ceilings collect cracks, cobwebs, cooking and the ghost of the last smoker. We fill hairline cracks and tape any that keep coming back, seal water stains with a stain-block primer, apply two coats of flat matt ceiling paint (flat hides imperfections; shine shows them), and cut in a clean line where ceiling meets wall or coving.
Artex, textured or old-style ceilings? Ask. We'll advise honestly whether to paint, skim, or leave alone.
Gloss, satin or eggshell? Gloss is the shiniest and toughest but shows every bump. Satinwood is the modern middle ground. Eggshell is soft and low-sheen. We'll recommend what suits the room and the age of the house. Water-based by default: low smell, quick drying, and it stays white rather than yellowing.
One call. Every room. Property painting is the whole-house job: inside, outside or both.
Neutral, fresh and photograph-ready before the estate agent arrives.
Turnaround between tenants, with durable finishes that survive the next one.
The "make it ours" job, before the boxes are unpacked.
The once-a-decade refresh that's overdue.
For a whole property we agree an order (usually top to bottom, outside in good weather first) and a timetable, so you know which rooms are out of action and when.
Light first, then colour. The same paint looks different in every room.
Warm whites and soft creams bounce what light there is. Paint the window reveals the same colour as the walls to pull the light in.
Warm it up: earthy pinks, soft yellows, warm greiges. Blue-based greys feel chilly here.
Cool it down: soft greens, greys and blues hold up in strong sun.
Not always brilliant white. Soft off-white looks calmer. Or go bold: dark doors in a pale room.
Try before you buy. We paint test patches so you can see them morning and evening.

Breadsall sits just north-east of Derby, small enough to feel like a village, close enough to get anywhere. The tall spire of All Saints' marks it from miles away. Breadsall Priory, where Erasmus Darwin spent his final years, is now a hotel and golf club on the edge of the parish.
Nearby, too: Little Eaton, Oakwood, Chaddesden, Breadsall Hilltop, Morley and Spondon.
Fair question. Honest answer: it depends on your rooms.
No two homes are alike, so we don't publish prices. A quote is written for your rooms, your walls and the finish you want, after we've seen them. Every quote is written and fixed. No meter running.
Adds time: heavy filling, wallpaper removal, high ceilings, lots of glosswork, dark-to-light colour changes, exterior access.
Saves time: several rooms at once, good-condition walls, standard colours.
Yes, and it's the best way to do it. Ceilings first, walls next, woodwork last.
Satinwood for most modern homes: tough and easy to clean, with a softer sheen. Gloss if you love the shine or want a traditional look.
Usually, yes. Very old textured coatings can contain asbestos, so we won't sand or scrape them; we'll advise on testing first.
One to two days for most rooms, longer if there's lots of preparation or woodwork.
Yes. We do quick turnarounds between tenancies with durable, wipeable finishes.
Yes, along with Chaddesden, Breadsall Hilltop, Morley and Spondon.
Every home is different, so every quote is too. We'll visit, look at the rooms and give you a written price for your job.
Yes. We move it, cover it and put it back.
Or send a note and we'll call you back. We aim to reply within the day.
